Cheers!

It all began with the pandemic, which left me to find ways to travel while sequestered in my home. I stumbled upon the World Atlas of Wine, and my curiosity was piqued. Each wine region looked like a picturesque destination waiting to be discovered, and I couldn’t resist delving deeper into the world of wine.

I spent hours watching documentaries about wine and even enrolled in an Introduction to Wine Tasting course offered by the University of California, Davis on Coursera. As small gatherings with friends became possible again, I found myself eager to showcase my newfound knowledge by bringing along different wines to share.

Summer arrived, and my attention shifted to the great outdoors and my interest in gardening. But it wasn’t until I attended local sommelier-hosted wine tastings that my interest was rekindled. The history of wine and its regions fascinated me, and I was hooked. As any history buff knows, once you delve into a topic, you go down the rabbit hole. I found myself exploring the rich and fascinating history of the world through the lens of wine and other historic drinks.

So, whether you’re a wine connoisseur or a casual drinker, join me in raising a glass and saying, “Cheers!” Together we can discover the fascinating history and culture behind the drinks we all love. From the vineyards of Italy to the distilleries of Scotland, there’s a world of stories and traditions waiting to be explored. So let’s sip, savor, and learn about the drinks that have shaped human history and culture for centuries. With every glass, we’ll toast to our shared passion for all things liquid and learn something new along the way. Cheers to you, and cheers to the journey ahead!

As a bonus, my family name is “Beer,” so exploring history through the beverages we enjoy feels like my destiny.
